Greenwich Men’s Rugby fell to NYRC over the weekend at GHS with a final score 24-31. NYRC traveled to Greenwich with a mix of their D2 and D3 squads which provided a slight edge over the home team but overall it was a hard-fought battle by both teams. Greenwich started off slow but gained momentum throughout the first half in the 95-degree weather and entered the intermission with the score tied at 14. The pack played extremely well with much intensity lead by man of the match and loosehead prop, Mathias Manzur. For the backs, scrumhalf Kevin Morgan was able to dot down two tries after chasing down his own grubber kicks. Coach Pazio was happy with the effort despite the loss and notes the team will have to train hard this week to improve for the upcoming weekend.
Greenwich will face Suffolk on Saturday, August 24, at 1 pm at Greenwich High School Stadium. This is the first league match of the season and all points going forward will be tallied for the upcoming Empire Conference playoffs held at the end of the fall regular season.
