Greenwich Men’s Rugby defeated Suffolk over the weekend at GHS Stadium with a final score 82-19 – our largest margin of victory ever. The forwards worked hard from the opening kickoff and were able to dot down a try with simple and controlled pick-and-go play off the ruck. From that point on, the game was in the hands of Greenwich who were up at halftime 42-0. In the second half, the home team continued to dominate but due to substitutions and some lazy defense, Suffolk was able to enter the try zone. The forwards continued to pound the ball down the field led by hooker/flanker Andrew Bailey. In the final minutes, new player and wing Jon Alkins was able to score in his first-ever match thanks to excellent passing throughout the backline.

All in all, it was a very successful day for Greenwich. The team scored a record 12 tries along with 11 conversion kicks thanks to fullback Liam Doran. Although pleased with the result, coaches Pazio and Saleem insist the players must work harder on defense and structure to reach the playoffs later in the season; the team continued to train this week despite the BYE weekend for Labor Day.

Next up, Greenwich will travel three hours north to Saratoga on September 7 and then host Danbury at home on September 14. Both matchups will be a true test for Greenwich RFC and must needed wins if the team hopes to secure first place in the division.
