Covid-19 Update 5-27

Dear OGRCC Members,

We hope this email finds you and your families all safe and healthy.

After much thought and consideration, we’ve made the decision to cancel our remaining spring programs and our ever popular, Sandpipers Beach Camp this summer due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19.  Based on the latest recommendations by the CDC, the relevant federal and state authorities and in complying with the guidelines under Phase 1 of Connecticut’s Reopening Plan, we are unable to safely and responsibly operate several of our programs at this time.

This includes all spring Recreational Baseball, Cal Ripken Baseball, Flag Football, Youth Rugby, Recreational Soccer, and Tennis programs.  At this time, this does not include our Adult Soccer program, Thunder Baseball, and our other summer camp offerings as we continue to await further guidance regarding the potential for those activities during Phase 2 of CT’s plan and the summer months.  We are also hopeful to be able to offer specific programs and sports during the summer months as we’ve done in the past, so visit our website and stay tuned for specific information regarding each program.

This decision was not made lightly, but we feel that given the constraints we are faced with, we would not be able to offer the same safe and quality programs our community has grown to expect and love from the OGRCC, especially from Sandpipers, which has been operating for over 45 years.

Given this sad news, we ask that you strongly consider converting your registration fees into a fully tax-deductible contribution. As a charitable organization, the OGRCC relies almost entirely on program fees to function.  Without them, the continuity of our operations is at risk.  While we did receive a Paycheck Protection Plan (“PPP”) loan under the CARES Act, the terms of that loan require the OGRCC to apply those funds primarily to narrowly defined employee-related costs over a limited period of time, and does not provide us with the future stability needed to continue to operate.

You can make a huge difference by making a donation to support the OGRCC financially and allow us the additional flexibility needed to ensure our organization can weather this crisis.

Rest assured that we have established several working groups to analyze and assess the changing state of affairs and the various guidelines put forth by government and health authorities.  We continue to tirelessly work to develop future offerings that comply with the latest health and safety regulations and will be in touch with what those offerings will be.

Please send an email to spring2020@myogrcc.org by June 5th with how you would like us to handle your registration fees.  Donations are encouraged, but the option to receive a credit with no expiration or a refund per our refund policy will be honored at all times.

If you have already responded previously and made a donation (thank you!) or received a credit and/or refund, you can disregard this email.
