Greenwich Men’s Rugby defeated Danbury over the weekend with a final score 41-31 in front of an energetic home crowd of friends and family. The victory marks our first win against Danbury in three seasons and catapults Greenwich to the top of the Atlantic D3 standings with 12 points. The teams exchanged scores throughout the first half with plenty of intensity and hard hits until a penalty kick late in the half gave Greenwich a 17-14 edge. In the second half, some changes to the front row gave the Greenwich pack some much needed inspiration who were able to dominate the lineouts and mauls to create open space for the backs to get creative. Key tries from Kevin Morgan (scrumhalf), Chris Whelan (fullback) and Tevin Campbell (outside center) pulled Greenwich further in the lead, and the boys were able to hold off two separate goal-line stands from the visitors.

Coaches Pazio and Saleem were very happy with the effort, but as always, there is more to work on as we strive to improve every week. The team will review the defensive line, speed off the rucks, and ball presentation during training on Tuesday and Thursday. Next up, Greenwich will travel to White Plains on Saturday, September 21.
