In Town Baseball

OVERVIEW

Our In-Town Baseball Program is designed to provide a fun, traditional baseball experience. It’s a great way for players of all talent levels to come together and enjoy friendly competition.

  • For younger players: Teams are formed based on the clinic day and time selected during registration, making it easy to align schedules with other families.
  • For older players: Teams are drafted following an evaluation process to create a balanced and enjoyable experience for everyone.

T-Ball  46’ x 60’

Tee-Ball introduces baseball to our youngest players in a fun and stress-free environment.  The program will run for 6 weeks, beginning in late April and ending mid-June (no games week of Memorial Day Weekend).

Players will receive the fundamentals of fielding, throwing, catching, batting, running and how to transition in baseball.  All of this is introduced with the beginner levels of competition in mind, all secondary to having FUN.

Clinics/Practice:
We partner with a third-party organization to run T-Ball clinics focused on teaching essential baseball skills. These sessions, with a 10:1 player-to-coach ratio, prioritize safety, smooth transitions, and skill-building. Please note, these are not traditional team practices but structured skills sessions for groups of 40-50 players.

Games:

  • Games are held every Saturday at 2 PM or 3 PM and run for an hour.
  • Teams switch sides when one of the following occurs:
  1.       5 runs are scored,
  2.       3 outs are recorded, or
  3.       Every player on offense has batted.
  • Field Dimensions: Bases are 45’ apart.
  • Base Stealing: No leading or stealing is allowed in T-Ball.

Coach Pitch/Pre-Pitch Division 46’ x 60’

Players will continue the development of baseball fundamentals from our Tee-Ball Division: throwing, catching, fielding, batting, running, sliding, bunting, and more.  This level of baseball is to teach players how to compete at a faster pace with the introduction to baseball strategy.

While having fun and playing in a positive environment is the goal, this level prepares players for a more explosive game of baseball, all while encouraging the OGRCC Baseball Mission.

Clinics/Practice:

We hire a third-party organization to conduct skills clinics. These sessions follow the same 10:1 player-to-coach ratio and are focused on instruction rather than traditional practices.

Games: Games have traditionally been on Saturdays beginning at 10am or 12pm.

  • Teams follow a Five-Run Per Inning Rule (except for the last inning):
  1. A team’s turn at bat ends on the play during which its 5th run is scored, even if more runs score on that play.
  2. In the final inning (6th inning or due to darkness), the defensive team must get 3 outs or the batting team will bat around. All runs scored count.
  3. These games are 75 mins long.
  4. Special Rules for Coach Pitch Pitching:
  5. Coaches pitch from 35’-40’ and should deliver pitches with effort (“something on it”), as judged by the umpire.
  6. Walks are not allowed.
  • Field Dimensions: Bases are 60’ apart.
  • Base Stealing: No leading or stealing is allowed.
  • Outfielders:
  1. Teams play with 4 outfielders positioned in the outfield.
  2. If one team has fewer than 10 players, the other team may still use 4 outfielders.
  3. Coaches may agree to place extra players in the outfield, but only 6 players are allowed in the infield.
  • Infielders:
  1. Teams may have up to 6 infielders: 1 pitcher’s helper, 4 traditional infielders, and 1 catcher.
  2. All infielders must maintain a minimum distance of 40 feet from home plate.

Minors Division – Modified Kids Pitch   46’ x 60’

Minors Division is for youth who are looking to continue a positive growth in baseball while learning more advanced concepts that lead them into a greater emphasis of competition.

At nine and ten, players will become more independent as the spring season progresses. They will continue to focus on fundamentals while learning how to steal, hit cut-off men, and learn defensive strategy and coverages.

Players remain on the same size field, but the game is played much faster than the earlier divisions.  Players advance to a playoff system instead of a season ending round robin.

Minors Practice/Games/Rules More Information

The Minors Division introduces players to more advanced baseball rules while maintaining a fun and supportive environment. Below is an outline of the key rules and practice expectations for this division.

Minors Division Rules

  • Five Run Per Inning Rule:
  1. Coaches may choose to enforce this rule if both agree before or during the game to maintain balance. The rule is the same as in Class A.
  • Base Stealing:
  1. Stealing bases is allowed; however, stealing home is not permitted during the first 6 games of the season.
  2. Runs can only score if the ball is batted into play, except in cases where a runner is forced home due to a walk, hit-by-pitch, or catcher’s interference.
  3. During the first two weeks of the season, players are limited to stealing base-to-base.
  • Stealing Home:
  1. After the first 6 games of the season, stealing home will be allowed. This will be further discussed during the coaches’ meeting.
  • Dropped 3rd Strike:
  1. The dropped 3rd strike rule does not apply in the Minors Division.
  • Extra Hitter (EH):
  1. Teams must use an EH, creating a 10-player batting order.
  2. To ensure all players get equal playing time, coaches must rotate the EH position each inning.
  3. No player can serve as the EH in a second game without all teammates first taking a turn in the EH position.
  • Weekend Pitching Limit:
  1. To protect pitchers, especially those also participating in the Select program, pitching is limited to 2 innings per weekend in the Minors Division.
  • Fielding Positions:
  1. Teams field 3 outfielders, 4 infielders, 1 catcher, and 1 kid pitcher.
  2. Adjustments to fielding positions may be made after the first two weeks of the season.

Minors Division Practices

This year, we’re emphasizing the importance of traditional practices to help players improve at a faster and more productive rate than before.

  • Practice Expectations:
  1. Coaches are required to hold one practice per week and may request a second practice from league officials if needed.
  2. Practice plans are provided to all parent coaches to ensure consistency and quality.
  3. These practices will focus on skill development and teamwork, building on game-day experiences.

We are committed to making the Minors Division an exciting and enriching experience for all players. If you have questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Minors Games:

Traditionally games have always been on Saturdays beginning at 8am or 10am.  Last season the minors added a weekday game on Thursday evenings.  The minors division also has a playoff and standings.

Majors Division – Player Pitch  50’ x 70’

Our Majors Division prepares our most experienced players to compete with confidence at a high level. At this point, players know the game and will be encouraged to take risks.  (Leading, tagging-up, balks, etc.)

Fundamentals will be reminded and taught, and remain vital at all ages.  During the Majors division, players will learn how to take signs defensively and offensively.  They will continue to increase their baseball IQ, learn how to win or lose with class, and compete at their very best. The season will culminate with a playoff.

Scorekeeping and standing are enforced.
