Campers will now enjoy an added environmental component with a scheduled educational visit to the Floren Family Environmental Center in the Innis Arden Cottage.
This year hundreds of youngsters will have a chance to learn more about the ecology of the Long Island Sound thanks to a NEW partnership with the Billion Oyster Project and the Town of Greenwich Shellfish Commission. The summer science program will now be integrated into the Sandpipers Beach Experience. Campers will explore the Long Island Sound ecosystem with an emphasis on oyster ecology. Oysters are an anchor species that provide habitat for other marine life and help to keep the Sound waters clean. Get ready to explore our local shellfish populations, learn about oyster ecology and their importance on water quality, risks from birds and other predators and learn how to reduce the impacts from trash and invasive species that threaten our shorelines and shellfish populations.
This program will meet with leaders from the Billion Oyster Project at the Floren Family Environmental Center in the Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point. The classes will be held for eight consecutive Mondays from 10-12 and 2-4, starting June 24th.
