What is this Tryout for?  This tryout marks the beginning of assembling our town’s top travel-eligible baseball players to form two travel teams per age group. Both teams will engage in a rigorous training process, starting with winter workouts run by professional coaches Johnny Montanez, Chuck Guitierrez, Christian Paulino and Kyle Wirtz. The travel season includes spring practices, spring games, and summer travel tournaments. This program is designed for players who prioritize baseball and are committed to playing at a very competitive level.

The top 24 players will secure spots on one of the two travel teams in their age group (Blue/Red). If a player from this group progresses over the winter training and/or spring season, coaches will decide if adjustments should be made to the A-team roster. If your child is unable to attend the tryout, please inform us to arrange an alternate workout.

The goal of this tryout is to identify players dedicated to excelling in baseball and ready to prioritize the sport at a high level.

Our coaching staff will complete the team selections by 12/8/24. You will be notified by email. A lot of time and effort will be placed on making these decisions so we ask that you take 72 hours after receiving your email before reaching out to Johnny Montanez or the OGRCC. Thank you for understanding.

12U will head to Cooperstown, NY; Aberdeen, MD; compete in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League, and compete against other towns’ travel teams in preparation for the district tournament/pool play.

11U will head to Aberdeen, MD; compete in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League, and compete against other towns’ travel teams in preparation for the district tournament/pool play.

9U will compete in a Memorial Day Tournament, the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League, and compete against other towns’ travel teams in preparation for the district tournament/pool play.

Coaching update for 2025 Travel Baseball Season:

This upcoming season will have a mix of both hired baseball coaches and volunteer parent coaches. ALL coaches will be experienced in baseball and carry the mission of the OGRCC.  They will know the nuances of the game to be able to progress their players throughout the season. Each coach will be vetted and hired by Johnny Montanez and Kyle Wirtz.

Important!!

  1. Greenwich baseball enthusiasts not interested in playing travel baseball next year are eligible to participate in the In-Town Cal Ripken. In-Town Cal Ripken registration will begin on Dec.15 and tryouts will take place on January 25 & 26. Registration for Cal Ripken is required in order to attend the tryouts. This will be a separate tryout and placement. Registration will close as soon as teams are complete.
  2. Travel baseball players must participate in the regular In-Town Cal Ripken baseball program during the spring of 2025.  Players who tried out in November will not be required to try out again, HOWEVER, these players must register for In-Town Baseball so that they are placed on teams.
